Manual Lymphatic Drainage Massage
Lymphatic drainage is a specialised manual technique of light skin massage (rather than muscular massage) to remove excessive tissue fluid and toxin build up in the lymph system, such as the lower legs and ankles. Such naturally occuring swelling (lymphoedema) often results from poor circulation and a more sedentary lifestyle. It is also highly recommended post surgery, by surgeons to aid tissue recovery after a cosmetic operation such as liposuction, tummy tucks, surgical enlargements such as Brazilian Butt Lifts (BBLs), reductions to waist lines, breasts, thighs and buttocks, plus face and neck lifts. The techniques aid healing and reduce body fluid retension and swelling.
Lymph is a circulatory system just beneath the skin's surface for the body's excess tissue fluid and waste products that, unlike the blood circulation, does not have a heart to pump the fluid through the vessels, and so lymph can become stagnant. Lymph cleanses tissue fluid of harmful organisms and is essential to the body's immunity. The lymph system exists to improve the body's natural immunity and immune response to fight, breakdown and destroy bacteria and other microrganisms, and ensures essential proteins are returned to the blood.
Manual lymphatic drainage uses a very gentle pressure movement across the skin in the direction of lymph drainage, upwards to the lymph nodes in the knees, groin, armpits and neck areas. The technique can be used in combination with another massage, such as Aromatherapy Massage, or Remedial Massage, which will also improve the flow of lymph along with improving the blood circulation. Specialised oil that contains the breakthrough ingredient PurCellin Oil, is ideal for reducing scars and stretch marks, whereas Ginger essential oil is ideal for improving the circulation.
Extended treatment times allow for more extensive areas to be covered. Please discuss your condition with Steve, who will advise the best duration.
