LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE
Lymphatic drainage is a specialised technique used to reduce fluid retension or
swelling in parts of the body (oedema). The condition often occurs in the ankles, legs or after an operation. Improved drainage will reduce swelling,
improve the body's natural immunity and immune response to bacteria and other
microrganisms, and ensure essential proteins are returned to the blood.
Lymph is a circulatory system for the body's excess tissue fluid and waste
products that, unlike the blood circulation, does not have a heart to pump the
fluid through the vessels, and so lymph can become stagnant. It cleanses tissue
fluid of harmful organisms and is essential to the body's immunity.
We use a very gentle pressure movement across the skin to help lymph
drainage. the technique can also be used in combination with another massage,
such as Swedish Massage, or Remedial Massage, which will also improve the flow
of lymph along with improving the blood circulation.
I was suffering from swollen ankles and legs particularly at the
end of the day. Steve's work has helped reduce this pain and swelling.
